No visit to the Costa Blanca is complete without a trip to it’s jewel in the crown “Guadalest”. This fortified village perched precariously on a mountain top, is surrounded by some of the highest points in the province of Alicante, the Sierra Aixorta, Sierra Aitana and Sierra Serrella. The Fallas is a traditional celebration held in commemoration of San José (Saint Joseph) in the Valencian Community. The word Fallas (or Falles in Valenciano) can refer either to the celebrations themselves or to the giant, colourful papier-mâché effigies which are eventually burnt on the final night of the celebrations.

The Moors and Christians Fiesta (Moros y Cristianos) is a tradition dating back to the 16th Century, and commemorates Christians’ triumph after the great battle which took place in the 13th Century, ending the Moors’ 800 year rule of Spain.

Every November, Benidorm celebrate’s its Fiestas Mayores Patronales in honour of the Virgen del Sufragio and San Jaime. The fiestas begin on the weekend of November’s second Sunday and end the following Wednesday.

The spectacular Three Kings procession is one of the highlights of Benidorm’s Christmas calendar, particularly for children, as it marks the arrival of their presents. The costumed trio ride through the streets, throwing sweets into the buzzing crowds.
